One variation which was not too often talked about during the years 2015 and 2016 was on managing Applications Support & Maintenance (AS & M) engagements.

There are tens of processes common between IT development projects and IT services engagements where Application Support is provided.

However, there are some processes and best practices that are exclusive to the services that are provided in AS & M.

Many a time, aspiring project managers are not adequately trained to deal with the execution of projects. Some organisations attach the aspiring ones with mentors and take them through the lifecycle of projects, but in many other cases, they are not well-trained/mentored. This work is critical to the success of engagement with customers and tracking all the deliverables with high quality well within the agreed timelines, cost and profit margins.
